#86 – Apocalypto – aka Mel Gibson does Disney rated “R”…

Welcome back, HYSTOphiles! We’re so glad to be back, and as we continue our journey through the holiday season we bring you this classic, heartwarming Christmas movie…JUST KIDDING!

Hey! You don ‘t have to get mad about it!

Keith’s pick this time is the 2006 Mel Gibson film Apocalypto. Definitely NOT a holiday classic, but definitely a DISNEY FILM (the last “R” rated film under the Disney moniker!). You’ll have to listen in to see what I thought about it. No spoilers here!

It’s the incredible origin story of Blue Man Group…

We also do our usual entertainment talk: what we’ve been watching lately and what movie we’ll cover next time for our Christmas show! We sure do hope that you join us, because we really do want to know…

Episode #85 is Oh-So-Ghostly, and features special guest Shawna West!

BOO!

Hello HYSTOphiles! We are back with Episode #85, and it is creepy and a half, because we are covering the 1980 haunted house masterpiece The Changeling, starring George C. Scott…

The Man. The Myth. The Legend.

We are joined on this cinematic journey by our friend and first-time guest Shawna West! Shawna brought a lot to the party, and we can’t wait for you to hear it. There are so many creepy moments in this movie…and we discuss them all!

THE WHEELCHAIR SCENE! AUGH!

We also have a great deal of fun talking about what’s been keeping us entertained lately, and Keith announces his choice for Episode #86.

We hope you join us for Shawna’s first (but definitely not last!) appearance on the show, because we really do want to know…

Hi! It’s me again!

Hello HYSTOphiles! We’re back with #84! We present to you Keith’s choice Gone Girl. This 2014 David Fincher film features Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck, whom we just saw and discussed recently when we covered Boiler Room

“Wow! You were in Boiler Room?”

#83 is our Very Special Halloween Special – with Special Guest Erin Casteneda!

Join us, children!

Yay! It’s our 3rd Annual Very Special Halloween Special! And we are so lucky to have our dear friend (and big-time horror movie fan) Erin Casteneda along for the fun! We picked a couple of real Halloween mood-setters for this time around, and our first film is…

Tales of Halloween! This 2015 film contains 10 different stories set on Halloween, and all in the same small town. Eleven different directors (all fans of the genre) collaborated to make this seasonal gem, and I couldn’t wait to share this one with Keith and Erin.

One of the many gorgeous characters in Tales of Halloween

As to whether or not they liked it? You know how to find out! Next, we visited a classic from 1976: Alice, Sweet Alice, directed by Alfred Sole and starring, in her first movie roll ever, Brooke Shields!

Soooooooooo young…

This is one that I have loved from way back, it being such a great proto-slasher and all. I knew Erin would be into it because, hey, it’s 70’s horror, but I was curious how Keith would react…

How I imagined Keith’s expression when first seeing this film…

How he probably really reacted…

Alice, Sweet Alice features one of the best and earliest masked killers in slasherdom…

It was released several times under different names, and I tried to include the posters for all of them below. Be sure to scroll down and check them out!

Of course we also talk about what’s been entertaining us lately, and we announce our next film as well. We hope you join our Halloween celebration, because we really want to know…

Episode #82 – The Magnificent Seven with guest Erin Casteneda!

…five, six, yep, there’s seven of ’em.

Hello there, HYSTOphiles! Episode #82 is here with the 1960 rip-off classic western film The Magnificent Seven.

A murderer’s row….

The film starts Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, and a slew of great actors that went on to big things after this. (Well, most  of them did.)

I had never seen this film, but I knew it was considered a remake of the Japanese classic The Seven Samuraiwhich I had never seen either…until now!

It was great to be able to compare the two films, and we had a fantastic time talking about Magnificent Seven, ESPECIALLY because our great friend Erin Casteneda joins us for the fun!

We hope you join us for the fun, because we really do want to know…

What good is sitting alone in your room? Come, hear the podcast play! It’s CABARET!

Wilkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome to Episode #81

Yes, welcome HYSTOphiles to Episode #81! This time we highlight one of the greatest musical films ever made (in my humble opinion)! It’s 1972’s Cabaret, by the absolute genius Bob Fosse…

Cabaret features wholesome dancers with good family values…

This movie has a lot of personal meaning for me, and it features so many stunning moments I had a hard time making myself stop talking about it…

Apparently, the natural look wasn’t popular in Berlin…

In addition to discussing this classic we also talk about what’s been keeping us entertained lately, and Keith’s announces his choice for me to watch for Episode #82 (hint: the theme song might make you want a cigarette…).

We really hope you join us for the party, because we really do want to know…

Is Episode #80 the real life? Is it just fantasy? OR is it WAKING LIFE?

Wiley Wiggins never looked more…Wiggins-y…

Hello HYSTOphiles! We’re back with Episode #80 and, folks, it’s getting DEEP in here! We’re talking EXISTENTIAL, y’all, because this time it’s all about Richard Linklater’s 2001 film Waking Life,

Yeah, this movie is not weird at all…

This may be the most abstract movie we’ve ever covered on the show. We were kind of worried that we’d have a difficult time discussing such an odd film, but HA! We couldn’t shut up about this mind-trip of a movie…

It’s just so Wiggins-y…

We also talk about what’s been keeping us entertained lately and, because this is #80, we rank each other’s last ten movie choices! We hope you can join us for the party, because we really want to know…

HYSTO Episode #79 Will live forever, because…DEATH BECOMES HER!

Time to get your head on straight and listen to Episode #79!

Greetings HYSTOphiles! We’re here to discuss a movie that is very life, uh, death confirming! That’s right! It’s the 1992 black comedy from Robert Zemeckis, Death Becomes Her, starring Bruce Willis, Goldie Hawn, and the amazing Meryl Streep!

Talk about a murderer’s row of a cast!

In case you aren’t familiar with the story, it involves a secret potion that enables you to never get older, never age, and never die.

I mean, would she lie to you?

A potion that offers eternal life! Nothing could go wrong with that, right?

Oh yeah. Looking good…

It was great fun talking about this film with Keith, plus we talk about what’s been keeping us entertained lately, and we also announce what movie we will cover on our 80th episode! We hope you join us, because we really do want to know…

#78 is a week late, but it is FULL of toxic masculinity!

“Don’t you know that we’re toxic?”

Hello HYSTOphiles! We’re a little late showing up to the party this time around, but we are back, and we are FULL OF TESTOSTERONE! (According to this movie, that’s a good thing…)

Yes in this episode we are covering the 2000 film Boiler Room. Keith chose this one and, though I had never even heard of this flick, I felt a foreboding when I heard the title…

Oh? Y’all too?

When I saw the poster I immediately thought of Wall Street, but that’s setting a high bar. Did this movie reach that height? To hear what I think you’ll have to listen in…

ALSO: we talk about what’s been keeping us entertained lately, and I announce which 90’s black comedy I’ve chosen for us to cover in Episode #79!

We hope you join us, because we really do want to know…

Episode #77 is a 70’s & early 80’s Horror Triple Feature! With special guest Erin Casteneda!

Well hello there, HYSTOphiles! We are back with Episode #77, and it’s a Classic Horror Triple Feature! And joining us this time around is our good friend and 70’s horror fan Erin Casteneda!

Do we have your attention yet?

First up is the Mario Bava classic proto-slasher A Bay Of Blood, aka Twitch of the Death Nerve, aka Blood Bath…

Doesn’t really matter which title it goes by as long as it delivers, right?

After that we go back to Crystal Lake for Friday the 13th Part Two. This movie has the best Final Girl ever. If you don’t agree with me come here so I can slap you…

Amy Steel. Best. Final Girl. Ever.

Then we move on to our guest’s (Erin Casteneda’s) choice, which is TRULY CHOICE. It’s the classic evil house thriller Burnt Offerings, starring Karen Black, Oliver Reed, and…BETTE DAVIS…

…plus this nightmare-inducing guy. SHEESH!

Along with all of this we also talk about what’s keeping us entertained these days, and Keith announces his next choice for me to watch.

We hope you join us, because we REALLY want to know…
