Episode #105 is full of “Needful Things”

It’s #105, HYSTOphiles, and we’re shopping for some Needful Things, the 1993 film based on the hit novel by Stephen King, and starring Max Von Sydow.

Yep. The guy who played Ming in Flash Gordon is the bad buy again…

While I’ve heard of this film for years, I’ve never seen it before now, and the only way to hear what I thought (and what Keith thought all these years later) is to listen in!

…and Max knows how to get you to watch…

Of course we also discuss what’s been entertaining us lately, and I announce what movie is in store for #106 next time.

We hope you join our movie party, because we really do want to know…

Episode #104 is our 4TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION! Bad Boys and Wanted! With special guest Paul Kastava!

Hello HYSTOphiles, and welcome to our 4th Anniversary Special! And that’s not all: our special guest this time around is none other than my original co-host, Paul Kastava! Yes, direct from Brooklyn, NY, Paul joins us to talk about two movies and to celebrate four years of doing just that!

First movie up is Paul’s choice: 1983’s Bad Boys, starring Sean Penn…

OMG! It’s Mr. Madonna!

It’s a gritty, low-down story of some young punks thinking that crime is the way to success and happiness…

Like I said…

After that we discuss my choice, 2008’s Wanted, starring James McAvoy and some actress named Angelina Jolie…

“Don’t pretend you don’t know who I am!”

Okay, girl! Chill! We also have a GREAT time catching up and talking about what’s been entertaining us lately, and Keith drops his movie for the next episode as we venture in to year number five!

We really hope you join our anniversary movie party, because we really do want to know…

Episode #103 is flying high and flush! The Kite Runner & Cookie’s Fortune!

Relax and stay awhile!

Greetings, HYSTOphiles! We’re back with another double feature and another special guest! Our first flick for #103 is The Kite RunnerKeith chose this 2007 film by director Marc Forster, which is based on the best-selling book of the same name…

It says here that Keith wasn’t trying to torture us with this movie, but I don’t know…

After that we discuss 1999’s Robert Altman film Cookie’s Fortune. Joining us for the discussion is the person who recommended this movie to us, our good friend Cassy Weyandt! It’s shocking to me that I’ve never seen this movie before, and I couldn’t wait to chat about it with Cass and Keith!

Chat about it and play Scrabble, that is…

Of course we do all the usual stuff that we love to do: we talk about what’s been entertaining us lately, and I announce what movies we will be covering on episode #104, which just happens to be our FOURTH ANNIVERSARY EPISODE! We also announce who our special guest will be for that episode, and it’s definitely an announcement worth tuning in for!

We really hope you join our movie party, because we really do want to know…

Episode #102! So, here’s The Thing…TWICE!

Welcome, HYSTOphiles! We are up to Episode #102, and this time, along with our special guest Shawna West, we are discussing two versions of the same story: 1951’s The Thing From Another World, and 1982’s John Carpenter classic The Thing.

Did I hear my name?

The first version of the film is a true classic, and it’s famous for a couple of iconic images…

Yep. That’s one of them…

The 1982 version is also famous for some iconic moments…

Yep. That’s one of them…

We had so much fun comparing the two films we forgot to mention that there was a prequel in 2011 (I didn’t really care for that one, but that’s my opinion).

Along the way we talk about what’s been entertaining us lately and, of course, Keith tells me what movie I’m assigned to watch for Episode #103. We really hope you join us for this movie party, because we really do want to know…

Episode #101 is here: The Boondock Saints

Hello HYSTOphiles! We’re back with our second triple-digit episode, and this time there are guns and (F) bombs aplenty! It’s the 1999 film by Troy Duffy, The Boondock Saints!

F-bombs! Guns! F-bombs! Extreme overacting! More F-bombs!

This was Keith’s choice, so you’ll have to tune in to see how I feel about watching this “cult classic.”

A picture of me thanking Keith…

Of course we also talk about what’s been entertaining us lately, and I tell Keith what he’ll be watching for Episode #102 (hint: it’s a double creature-feature!).

We hope you’ll join our little movie party, because we really do want to know…

Episode #100 is here, starring Ethel, Lola, and Carol Anne!

We made it!

Greetings, HYSTOphiles! and welcome to EPISODE #100, with triple the digits, triple the movies, and triple the special guests!

We start the party with Crazy Fat Ethel, aka Criminally Insane! Keith and I had seen this one together once before, but it was the first time for our resident 70’s movie connoisseur Erin Castenda! It’s also the first time she didn’t recommend the movie we watched!

Don’t worry, Erin, it’ll be your turn next time!

No, Ethel! No!

After that we head to Berlin, Germany for 1998’s Run, Lola, Run , and our guest for this journey is our good friend Knives Monroe! Neither Knives nor Keith had seen this one yet, and, him being a filmmaker himself, I was especially excited to hear what Knives thought about it.

Lola, right before she runs…

Finally, our third film is actually the third film in a franchise! It’s Poltergeist III! This was Keith’s contribution to our celebration, and joining us to discuss it is our dear friend and good-luck charm, Kellie Arnold! Kellie and I were actually surprised by this one, but if you want to know why…you’ll have to listen to find out!

Carol Anne! Carol Anne! Carol Anne! Carol Anne! Carol Anne! Carol Anne.! etc…

Afterwards, Keith and I share our Top Three and Bottom Three movies that we’ve made each other watch, and Keith announces what’s in store for Episode #101!

We hope you join our movie party, because we really do want to know…

Episode #99 has a bad moon rising…it’s An American Werewolf In London!

I woke up this way…

Welcome to HYSTO? #99, where Keith finally watches John Landis’ 1981 horror masterpiece An American Werewolf In London!

He’s never seen it?!?!

Despite a few technical issues (omg the sound on this one is terrible…will I ever learn how to do this?) we managed to have a blast talking about this one. The minute I found out that Keith had never seen it I put it right at the top of my list for the podcast…and I’m so glad I did!

We also talk about what’s been entertaining us lately, and we announce the THREE movies we’ll be covering during our BIG ONE HUNDREDTH EPISODE!!! You won’t want to miss it, and we really hope you don’t, because we really do want to know…

Episode #98 has so many levels! It’s 2019’s “The Platform”

Welcome to Episode #98! It’s Keith’s turn this time around, and he assigned me the 2019 Spanish film from Netflix, The Platform.

Also known as El Hoyo

The film has a fascinating premise, and it’s been on my watchlist for some time. Did it live up to all the positive reviews? Listen in to find out!

Ivan Massagué as Goreng in The Platform

We’ve had a lot of time to watch stuff lately, so of course we talk about what’s been the best of the bunch, and I also assign Keith his movie for #99…an 80’s horror classic!

We sure hope you join our movie party, because we really do want to know…

#97 is our Sexist Egotistical Lying Hypocritical Bigot edition…it’s 9 to 5!

Hello HYSTOphiles! We are back with episode #97! We tumbled out of bed and we stumbled into the recording studio to discuss the 1980 workplace comedy 9 to 5 starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and Dabney Coleman!

Quite a line up, eh?

Keith had never seen this one, and I couldn’t wait to share it with him. The movie came out before he was born, so I was very curious to see how it holds up now, these forty years later!

“Did you have to bring THAT up?”

Along the way we discuss what’s been entertaining us during this crazy time, and Keith announces what I will be watching for episode #98 (wow! 98!). We hope you join us for this movie party, because we really do want to know…
